Egypt Reaffirms Support for U.S.–Iran Talks and Regional Stability in High-Level Meeting with U.S. Adviser

Cairo has reiterated its support for diplomatic engagement between the United States and Iran, emphasizing the importance of negotiated solutions to reduce regional tensions and strengthen stability across the Middle East. The position was conveyed by Badr Abdelatty during a high-level meeting in Cairo with senior U.S. officials.

According to a statement from Egypt’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abdelatty received Massad Boulos on Monday to discuss bilateral relations as well as a wide range of regional developments, including the situations in Sudan, Lebanon, the Horn of Africa, and Libya, in addition to issues related to Egypt’s national water security.

### Strengthening a Strategic Partnership

The meeting underscored what both sides described as the deep and longstanding strategic partnership between Egypt and the United States. Egyptian officials stressed that this partnership remains a cornerstone for promoting stability in both the Middle East and Africa, while also highlighting shared interests in expanding cooperation across political, economic, and security domains.

Both parties reportedly expressed a mutual interest in maintaining close coordination on regional crises and enhancing consultation mechanisms to address emerging challenges.

### Egypt’s Support for U.S.–Iran Negotiations

A central topic of discussion was the ongoing diplomatic track between the United States and Iran. The Egyptian foreign minister reviewed Cairo’s diplomatic efforts and communications aimed at de-escalating tensions in the region.

Abdelatty reaffirmed Egypt’s support for continued negotiations between Washington and Tehran, stressing that a political settlement is essential to containing tensions and preventing further instability. He emphasized that diplomacy remains the most viable path toward long-term regional security.

### Sudan: Calls for Ceasefire and Institutional Stability

The discussions also addressed the worsening crisis in Sudan. Egypt reiterated its firm position on preserving Sudan’s unity and territorial integrity, while rejecting any external interference that could deepen the conflict or undermine political solutions.

Cairo called for an urgent humanitarian truce as a first step toward a sustained ceasefire, enabling the delivery of humanitarian aid and reducing civilian suffering. The Egyptian side also stressed the need to support Sudanese state institutions and prevent their collapse, warning that continued violence against civilians and infrastructure could further destabilize the country.

Egypt also advocated for an inclusive political process led by Sudanese actors, emphasizing national ownership of any future settlement.

### Lebanon and Regional Sovereignty Concerns

The situation in Lebanon was another key focus of the meeting. Egypt reaffirmed its consistent position supporting Lebanon’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while calling for a complete halt to external hostilities against the country.

Cairo also welcomed recent announcements of a ceasefire and emphasized the importance of empowering Lebanese national institutions, particularly the Lebanese Armed Forces, as a stabilizing force within the country.

### Horn of Africa Stability

Regional developments in the Horn of Africa were also discussed, with Egypt stressing the importance of respecting the sovereignty and territorial integrity of countries in the region, particularly Somalia and Eritrea.

Egyptian officials warned that stability in the Horn of Africa is closely tied to broader regional security and called for continued international support to prevent further escalation of tensions.

### Nile Water Security: A National Priority

On the issue of water security, Abdelatty reaffirmed that the Nile River represents an existential issue for Egypt. He rejected unilateral measures on transboundary rivers, emphasizing the importance of cooperation based on international law and equitable use of shared water resources.

Egypt has long maintained that safeguarding its water rights is a core national security priority, and reiterated its commitment to diplomatic engagement in all relevant negotiations.

### U.S. Appreciation for Egypt’s Regional Role

For his part, Massad Boulos praised Egypt’s leading and stabilizing role in both the Middle East and Africa. He expressed appreciation for the efforts of Egyptian President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi in promoting regional stability and managing complex crises.

Boulos also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening its strategic partnership with Egypt and maintaining close coordination on shared regional challenges, including conflict resolution, counterterrorism, and economic development.

### Continued Coordination Amid Regional Turbulence

The meeting reflects ongoing efforts by Cairo and Washington to align positions on a series of volatile regional issues. With conflicts persisting in Sudan, instability continuing in parts of the Levant, and broader geopolitical tensions involving Iran, both sides emphasized the need for sustained dialogue and coordinated diplomatic action.

Egypt’s message remains consistent: prioritizing diplomacy, supporting state institutions, and opposing unilateral measures that could escalate existing conflicts.

As regional crises continue to evolve, both Cairo and Washington appear committed to maintaining their strategic dialogue as a key mechanism for managing instability and advancing shared interests across a turbulent geopolitical landscape.
