The Belgian Football Association is in negotiations with French coaches Rudi Garcia and Thierry Henry, as well as Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui, to take over as the national team manager following the dismissal of Domenico Tedesco due to poor results, according to local media reports on Sunday.
The Belgian Football Association parted ways with Tedesco on Friday after results "did not meet expectations."
According to Belgian media, Garcia, Henry, and Lopetegui are the top contenders for the role.
Lopetegui, who was recently dismissed from his role as West Ham manager, previously managed Spain between September 2016 and June 2018. Under his leadership, Spain went undefeated in 20 matches, achieving 14 wins and 6 draws, and qualified for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Lopetegui was dismissed from his position as Spain's coach just days before the World Cup began after it was announced he would join Real Madrid following the global tournament, which caused tension within the team. The Spanish Football Federation replaced him with Fernando Hierro.
Garcia managed Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr in the 2022 season, in addition to coaching Lille, Marseille, Lyon, and Nice in France, as well as Roma and Napoli in Italy.
Henry, on the other hand, has not yet had a prominent managerial career. He has managed French club Monaco, Canadian club Montreal, and the French U-21 national team, in addition to serving as an assistant coach to Spaniard Roberto MartÃnez with the Belgian national team.
