Sinner Defeats Zverev and Retains the Australian Open Tennis Title

Jannik Sinner successfully defended his Australian Open tennis title with a dominant win over Alexander Zverev on Sunday, winning in straight sets.

This victory opens new horizons for Italian tennis and leaves his German opponent in pain after his third loss in a Grand Slam final.

Ranked number one in the world, Sinner became the first Italian player to win three Grand Slam titles, surpassing Nicola Pietrangeli, who won two consecutive men’s titles at Roland Garros in 1959 and 1960.

A year after his five-set victory over Daniil Medvedev to claim his first Grand Slam title, Sinner spoiled his second thrilling final in Melbourne Park by applying relentless pressure and executing decisive shots against Zverev.

For Zverev, the wait continues for his first Grand Slam title, after finishing as runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz at the French Open last year and losing to Dominic Thiem in the 2020 US Open final.
