Brazilian star Neymar da Silva has officially announced his return to his boyhood club, Santos, after ending his spell with Saudi club Al Hilal, which lasted for a season and a half.
This return comes after an agreement between the player and the Saudi club to terminate his contract, with Neymar waiving part of his financial entitlements. This decision followed his exclusion from Portuguese coach Jorge Jesus' plans, especially after his delayed return from injury.
Neymar confirmed the news of his return to Santos in a video posted on his official social media accounts. The video featured clips from his early days with the club before his journey to Europe.
In the video, the Brazilian star said: "I feel like I am going back in time. I am here with my family and friends, who have helped me achieve many things, and I can't wait for tomorrow."
He added: "Of course, my family and friends already knew about my decision. I will sign a contract with Santos, and I would like to thank all the fans around the world who have supported me throughout my career."
Expressing his happiness about this step, he said: "I have been hoping for this moment for a long time. It has been 12 years since I left Santos, but my feelings towards this club and its fans have never changed."
Neymar did not forget his time with Al Hilal, as he mentioned that he enjoyed his stay in Riyadh, saying: "I had a great time there, I was happy, and I will carry these memories with me forever."
He also reaffirmed his support for the 2034 FIFA World Cup project set to be hosted in Saudi Arabia, adding: "I will do my best to ensure the success of the tournament, and I believe that Saudi Arabia is on the path to progress and moving forward."
With this move, Neymar returns to where his professional career began, marking a new chapter in his football journey, as Santos fans eagerly anticipate seeing their legendary star don the club’s jersey once again.
