China to Host Billie Jean King Cup Finals from 2025 to 2027

The International Tennis Federation announced on Thursday that the Chinese city of Shenzhen will host the Billie Jean King Cup Finals from 2025 to 2027, according to Reuters.

This will be the first time China hosts the tournament, which returns to Asia for the first time since 1989 when it was held in Tokyo, Japan, under the name Federation Cup, featuring 16 countries. The 2025 edition will see 146 countries participate.

The Federation said this move supports the tournament’s goal of promoting cultural exchange, celebrating diversity, and strengthening connections between athletes and fans around the world.

Zheng Qinwen, the Olympic gold medalist from Paris and ranked fifth in the world, said in a statement: "Hosting the Billie Jean King Cup Finals in Shenzhen is a dream come true for me and for other Chinese tennis players."

Billie Jean King, who has won 12 Grand Slam titles, said: "Shenzhen embodies the spirit of growth and innovation that lies at the heart of the Billie Jean King Cup, helping to expand the reach of tennis and support the strength of women’s sports."

The first international women’s team tournament was held in Málaga, Spain, last year, where fourth-ranked Jasmine Paolini led Italy to their fifth title. Both host China and defending champion Italy will automatically qualify for the finals.
