Ben Shelton Advances to the Men's Singles Semifinals at the Australian Open

American tennis player Ben Shelton defeated Italy's Lorenzo Sonego on Wednesday to advance to the semifinals for the second time in a Grand Slam tournament.

According to the British news agency PA Media, Shelton, known for his powerful serve, first made his major breakthrough at the Australian Open two years ago when he reached the quarterfinals in his debut appearance. He then surpassed that achievement at the US Open.

The draw at the Australian Open presented an opportunity for the 22-year-old Shelton, and he fully capitalized on it. He secured a victory over Sonego with scores of 6-4, 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-4) in the quarterfinals.

Shelton will face the winner of the other quarterfinal match between Italy's Jannik Sinner and Australia's Alex de Minaur in the semifinals.

Shelton commented: "I feel really comfortable now. Shoutout to Lorenzo Sonego because that was an amazing tennis match. I'm very happy to advance and to earn my first win on Rod Laver Arena. It's one of the best matches of my career."
