Bayer Leverkusen snatch qualification ticket from Qarabag Agdam in the Europa League


Bayer Leverkusen, led by their Spanish coach Xabi Alonso, snatched a ticket to the quarter-finals of the Europa League from their Azerbaijani counterparts Qarabag Agdam with a 3-2 victory in a match held on Thursday evening at BayArena in the second leg of the round of 16 of the Europa League.



Bayer Leverkusen almost exited the Europa League, trailing Qarabag Agdam 2-1, but Alonso's squad secured the win in the final moments of the match.


The first leg ended in a 2-2 draw before the German team won 3-2 in the return leg.


Abdullah Zubir opened the scoring for the visitors in the 58th minute, then his teammate Elvin Sadiqov received a red card in the 63rd minute, which became the turning point in the match.


Although Qarabag Agdam played with fewer players, they doubled the lead with a second goal in the 67th minute by Jhonny.


Jeremy Frimpong managed to reduce the gap for Leverkusen with a goal in the 72nd minute, maintaining this result for a long time.


In injury time, Patrick Schick scored the second goal in the 90+3 minute, before he himself scored the goal to advance to the quarter-finals of the Europa League in the 90+7 minute.
