Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, recently announced a series of changes to the policies of the company's platforms, such as Instagram and Threads. In a video he shared, Zuckerberg explained that the company will transition from a fact-checking system to a new model known as Community Notes.
Developer and researcher Alessandro Paluzzi pointed out that the Community Notes feature is hidden within the Threads app on iPhones. Through this feature, users can write notes about any post on the platform. The interface ensures that "the note will remain anonymous," with a link provided to redirect users to a support article on Instagram for further explanation of the feature.
According to the support article, if a user encounters a post that might be misleading or unclear, they can write a note containing essential information, tips, or insights that could be helpful to others. If the note is deemed valuable, it will be published alongside the post.
The feature also includes a button allowing users to join the waitlist for the Community Notes program.
Meta confirmed that these updates aim to empower people from diverse backgrounds to identify misleading posts and provide additional context.
Zuckerberg explained that the idea was inspired by Platform X (formerly known as Twitter), which offers a similar feature.
This feature is expected to initially roll out to users in the United States within the next two months, with plans to expand it to other countries next year.
