Republicans Elect Mike Johnson, a Trump Ally, as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives

On Wednesday, Republicans elected Mike Johnson as the Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, putting an end to weeks-long internal party disputes that had caused paralysis within Congress during a period marked by both international and domestic crises.

Johnson is known to be an ally of former President Donald Trump and led legal efforts aimed at challenging the results of the 2020 elections, according to France 24.

Representing Louisiana, Johnson, who is aligned with former President Donald Trump, garnered unanimous support from his party to serve as the 56th Speaker of the House of Representatives.
