Al Ahly and Simba Tanzanian Draw in Opening African League Match

The Egyptian club, Al Ahly, kicked off their African football league campaign with a 2-2 draw against Tanzania's Simba in a highly anticipated match held at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium.

Right from the start, Al Ahly displayed more danger, threatening Simba's goal multiple times through Mahmoud Abdel-Moneim "Kahraba" and South African Percy Tau.

Al Ahly called for a penalty in the 37th minute, but the referee did not grant it even after consulting the Video Assistant Referee (VAR). In injury time of the first half, Moroccan striker Reda Slim scored the opening goal following an impeccable assist from Kahraba.

In the second half, Dennis Kibu scored Simba's first goal in the 53rd minute, leveling the score. Shortly after, in the 59th minute, Tanzanian team secured their second goal courtesy of Sadıq Kadımotu.

Kahraba managed to equalize in the 63rd minute. Towards the end of the match, Al Ahly made valiant attempts to secure a winning goal, but Salah Mohsen and Kahraba squandered critical opportunities, resulting in a 2-2 draw.

The return leg is scheduled to take place next Tuesday in Cairo.
