The Russian Foreign Ministry Summons the Armenian Ambassador over 'Unfriendly Yerevan Actions'

The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the summoning of the Armenian Ambassador to Moscow, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, to the ministry's headquarters, where a strongly-worded protest was conveyed to him regarding what was described as "unfriendly actions by Yerevan."

According to the television channel "Russia Today" on Friday evening, the ministry stated, "Armenia's Ambassador to Moscow, Vagharshak Harutyunyan, was summoned to the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a strongly-worded protest was conveyed to him." Additionally, "a protest memorandum was delivered, reaffirming the rejection of the offensive statements made by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Alen Simonyan, on September 6, directed towards the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, and the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs as a whole."

The ministry pointed out that there were "certain doubts among official circles and the political elite in the Republic of Armenia regarding the feasibility of establishing allied relations within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization and with Russia on a bilateral basis," as well as doubts about the feasibility of the tripartite agreements between Moscow, Yerevan, and Baku concerning Azerbaijani-Armenian normalization.

It emphasized that "against this backdrop, the leadership of Armenia has taken a series of unfriendly steps in recent days, including launching the ratification process of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court, a trip to Kyiv by the Prime Minister's wife, Anna Hakobyan, with the UN Secretary-General, and delivering humanitarian aid to the Nazi regime in Kyiv, in addition to conducting military exercises on Armenian territory with the participation of the United States."

The ministry reiterated that Moscow firmly believes that Russia and Armenia will remain allies, and that all agreements related to the development and enhancement of relations will be fully implemented for the benefit of the peoples of both countries, adding that "the Russian side will continue to exert all necessary efforts towards this goal."
