Russian search engine Yandex gets hacked with the help of an employee

The company discovered the vulnerability internally during a routine inspection of its security team. The investigation revealed that the actions of employees led to the infiltration of nearly 5,000 Yandex email boxes.

The employee is a system administrator with access rights and can provide technical support for Yandex email service. The company stated in today’s press release that the official did so out of "personal interest," indicating that he had financial motivation.

It is not clear when the employee began to provide unauthorized third-party access, but the total number of inboxes hacked in this way was 4,887.

The company said: "The Yandex security team has blocked unauthorized access to the infected mailbox." He also added that users have been alerted about this vulnerability and they need to change the account password.

Due to the accident, Yandex will make changes to the management access program to improve the security of user data. According to the company, this security breach will not affect payment details.
